Parc Nacional d’Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici.
Located in the Central Pyrenees the Parc Nacional d’ Aigüestortes i estany de Sant Maurici has all the elements characteristic of the high mountains.
Created by decree of 21 October 1995 and reclassified by Law 7 / 1988 of March 30, the Generalitat of Catalonia, is one of twelve national parks existing only state that holds the class in Catalonia.
The park has a total area of 40,852 hectares which are spread among four Pyrenean counties that have a rich natural heritage, cultural and architectural: L’Alta Ribagorça, Pallars Sobirà, Pallars Jussà and the Val d’Aran. Of this area, 14,119 hectares in the central area of the park, which is divided into two very distinct sectors among themselves in the High Ribagorça Aigüestortes accessible from the Vall de Boi and Sant Maurici in Pallars Sobirà which has its entrance on the.The remaining 26,733 acres are part of the so-called peripheral zone of protection, which extends as a protective ring around the central area in order to protect it from possible impacts from outside.This belongs places of great interest and value Abadal naturalist as the Mata de València d’Àneu, the valleys of Gerber and Cabanes, Circ de Colomers, the laugh of Valarties and Cabdella and Gemena lakes.
